SPORTS LEGENDS inducted into College's hall of fame.

Almost 150 student and alumni athletesfrom 20 sports were inducted into Dartmouth's athletic hall of fame—the Wearersof the Green—on May 14 in Boston. Inductees included former golf coach BillJohnson and three honorary members: Carla Manley '40A, who joined husbandJohn '40 in supporting the construction ofathletic facilities; Seaver Peters '54, whoserved as Dartmouth athletic director from1967 to 1983; and David Orr '57, whoworked in alumni relations for 40 years andhelped initiate the first Wearers of theGreen celebration in 1984, Four-timeOlympic luger Cameron Myler '92 cochaired the event with Miami Dolphin quarterback Jay Fiedler '94, who called theevening "the only chance to get togetherwith people from all different sports." Murry Bowden "71, Ail-American and footballHall of Famer, served as master of ceremonies during the celebration, which isheld every five years. Among the inductees(four of them pictured at left) were IImembers of the graduating class of 2004,eight members of the class of 2005 andthree members of the class of 2006. In orderto join the Wearers of the Green, current students, graduates or coaches mustbe at least one of the following: an AilAmerican, an individual or team nationalchampion, an Olympian, a major leagueprofessional, a member of an athletic hallof fame, a first-team All Ivy member threetimes or more, an Ivy League Player of theYear, a member of a winning crew in eitherthe IRA or Eastern Sprints, or a recipient ofthe Archibald Prize. The Archibald Prize ispresented annually by the College athleticdepartment to the best student-athlete atDartmouth; 19 prize-winning athletes fromprevious eras were inducted: Richard Collins '53, football and track; DavidMcLaughlin '54, football; Walter Pugh '56, soccer and lacrosse; Ronald Judson '57, basketball; James Riffle '58, football;D. Scott Palmer '59, football, basketballand crew; Charles Kaufman '6O, basketballand baseball; George Ramming '61, basketball and track; Wilson Madden Jr. '64, football; James Cooper '65, hockey andlacrosse; William Calhoun '67, football andlacrosse; Terry Light '69, baseball; Thomas Byron '72, track and field; Robert Norton '73,football; Richard Wool worth Jr. '74, squashand tennis; Bruce Bokor '76, soccer; David DeMarco '77, baseball; Peter Lavery '83,football, baseball and track; and Todd Twachtmann '87, baseball.
