The winter meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of the State of Maine was held January 3 with over seventy alumni, undergraduates and their fathers attending.
The evening started off with a grand punch bowl, with credit again going to Rey Moulton '35, ably assisted by our President, Bill Carr '34. Because of the unexpected attendance, the punch bowl soon ran dry, but Bill Richards, father of Leslie Richards '51, and Manager of the Graymore Hotel, nobly came to the rescue, and his generosity was sincerely appreciated.
After a very pleasant and filling meal, the business meeting was conducted, and was held to a minimum, the only business being the Secretary's report and the Treasurer's report. Rey Moulton '35, in charge of our luncheon program, announced the change of days from Tuesday to Monday of each week, with the time unchanged. Bill Shapleigh '12 outlined the progress being made for the Spring Meeting, to be held in June.
Before the speaker of the evening was introduced, the undergraduates and their fathers were asked to stand. This type of a joint meeting with the present students and the alumni was one of the first held in the past few years, and it met with considerable success. Our main speaker of the evening, Ross Mcfcenney, was introduced by Bill Carr, and from there on, no holds were barred. Ross literally had everyone rolling in the aisles with the most entertaining stories. Finally, when Ross saw that everyone was weak from laughing, he proceeded to outline his duties with the Dartmouth Outing Club and the changes that had been made in the last several years. It was indeed interesting and by far more gratifyint to have such an able speaker as Ross McKenney present, because the fathers of the undergraduates were not too familiar with this phase of the College, and Ross' talk was more than appreciated by them.
