At Homecoming in late October our second class meeting of 2004 was held. Attended by 23 of our classmates, some serious matters were discussed and resolved despite the usual levity that is endemic at our meetings. Jay Davis, with his new gavel, which was awarded to the class as a symbol of our "Class of the Year" recognition by the College, demanded decorum and marched us through the many officer reports in quick step. Selected highlights are as follows.

Our treasurer Harry Robinson, who has removed 50 of our classmates from the subscription list for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, is ordered to eliminate 50 more classmates who have neither paid their class dues nor contributed to the reunion fund, following firm but polite notification.Head agent Hugh Nolin was authorized to set a class goal of $300,000 for this fiscal year's Dartmouth College Fund—a manageable number after our $7.7 million contribution to the College last year. Pete Kenyon, class projects coordinator, recommended changes in our internship support and the class decided to fund a David T. McLaughlin '54 fellowship with the international Dickey Foundation and a domestic fellowship with the Tucker Foundation. Finally, a committee was formed to recommend a class memorial honoring Dave McLaughlin. To be chaired by Dick Page, members will include Pete Geithner, John Heston, Pete Kenyon, Don Berlin and Rick Hartman.

At the Homecoming dinner held at the Hanover Inn on Saturday night, Gillespie Awards were given to Herb Hillman and Pete Kenyon for their organization of the post-reunion gathering at the Basin Harbor Club; and to Don Berlin and John Fenn for their enthusiastic efforts managing the class cruiseship adventures.

In December class holiday lunches were held in suburban Boston at the Weston Country Club and in New York at the Yale Club. The Boston lunch was shared with the class of '53. Dave Thielscher was host for 23 '54s and 13 '53s. In NewYork31 classmates attended Jay Davis, present at both luncheons, encouraged, as usual, participation in forthcoming class-sponsored skiing, golfing and fishing events, and a possible mini-reunion in California to be organized by Don Descombes and a European class outing in 2006. Dave Martin, at the New York luncheon, reported on his November experience in Ukraine as an election observer. He returned to Kiev over Christmas for the election repeat. Harry Robinson, Lyon Greenberg and Steve Mullins,in addition to Jay Davis, attended both luncheons.

In the last Alumni Magazine I listed classmates who attended Dave McLaughlins memorial service. I can add to that list Lyon Greenberg and Jonathan Moore. I am certain other classmates were there and were not recognized in Class Notes.

The College has notified the class that the endowment we organized for the English department, known as the Sanborn House Fund, has been established.
