Jeff Hanson and I have been exchanging e-mails and catching up. Jeff is aphysician, board certified in pediatrics, neonatology and pediatric critical care and practicing in Denver. Jeff came to Hanover from Illinois, but he insists that after 26 years in Colorado, he now considers himself a Westerner. That doesn't keep him from cheering still for the hapless Chicago Cubs, though. Jeff's wife Janice, a junior-year exchange student at Dartmouth from Wellesley and an M.B.A./C.F.A., shifted gears from the business world a few years ago and established herself as a professional watercolor artist, exhibiting herwork nationwide, especially at shows throughout the West. Jeff and Janice are the middle of a Dartmouth sandwich, positioned between Janice's father, Jim Crawford'46, and son, Forrest '06. The next set of tuition bills is just over the horizon now that daughter Shane is starting to look at colleges.
Another doc, Mike Draznik, dropped me an e- mail from Christ Hospital in Cincinnati during a brief pause after three deliveries and a surgery while awaiting the call for the next delivery. Draz had a hearty visit in the fall from Chris Pfaff and Peter Holden. Together with Don Casey, they golfed their hearts out for three days in the wind and rain. Nevertheless, they enjoyed the time to- gether, laughing and reminiscing. Draz was also preparing for a trip to Florida to play in an annual senior baseball national tournament held by the Roy Hobbs organization. Draz explained that it is very competitive baseball with teams from all over the country playing in different age brack- ets. He's playing with a group of old ballplayers from Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Terre Haute, who have done this same trip for more than 10 years. Draz invites any Big Greeners who played for Tony Lupien to join in the fun and see whether they can still hit the breaking ball.
Bruce Miller wrote from California that he had just returned from Brazil, where he was shooting a commercial for one of his clients. Bruce spent nine days in Sao Paolo casting, wardrobing and shooting. Highlights of the trip were the Brazilian supermodels among the cast of 26, the traffic gridlock in Sao Paolo, staying in the same hotel as Ricky Martin and the excellent fruits and vegetables in the Brazilian cuisine.
