Activity in the mailbag this cycle was very light.

Howard Hampton and I have been trading notes about the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL. My work takes me to Raleigh, North Carolina, regularly, and I've been keeping an eye on the team, last year's Stanley Cup winner. Howie has hockey connections to two of the stand-out Canadian players on the Hurricanes. Howie came to Hanover from Foit Francis, Ontario, and he was a stalwart on the Dartmouth hockey team. Howie still plays hockey a few times a week at hours, he explains, when all sane people are sleeping, i.e., either very early in the morning or very late at night. Outside of the rink Howie shoulders the serious responsibilities of leading Ontario's New Democratic Party and serving as a member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament. After graduation from Dartmouth Howie returned to Canada, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Toronto and a law degree from the U niversity of Ottawa. Howie has an en- viable record of public service, including having been attorney general for Ontario. Howie's wife, Shelley Mattel, is also a member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament. They have two children, Sarah and Jonathan.

Please make a note for 2007 to send me information about classmates and news about yourself.
