Hail, fellow '72s well met! Your humble scribe offers his most sincere apology for having submitted nothing for the most recent issue of the DAM. I was laid up over the holidays with a flu-like affliction and missed the deadline completely! I shall endeavor to be more responsible in the months to come!
Perhaps old but nonetheless very good news comes my way from our esteemed classmate Charlie Schudson. After suffering the ignominy of defeat in a highly questionable political process, Charlie has rebounded admirably to become the senior counsel at von Briesen & Roper, S.C. The firm, like Charlie, is deeply committed to the Milwaukee community. It is also fully supportive of his love of public service. Charlie will be writing and teaching for the University of Wisconsin Law School, Marquette Law School and Lawrence University, to name but a few of the luminary institutions he will be serving. Kudos, Charlie!
And for those who may not have heard, our friend Young Dawkins is headed overseas in June to assume the post of vice principal for development at the University of Edinburgh. Young will be working to develop and execute a fundraising strategy and to promote understanding for philanthropic giving across the university. Those with Internet access should have a look at www.ed. ac.uk/news/vice_principal_dev.html for the inside scoop Just a reminder, Young: You have to be back for our 35th in 2007 or the late-night dancing in our tent just won't be up to par!
Because of the six- or seven-week delay between submission to the magazine and publication,! expect you will have already heard about the plans afoot to rally our class in or around Chicago this summer! My esteemed colleague in class communications, John Rockwell, is putting together the details with President Jon for rapid dissemination of the details (he has a shorter lead time to get out the newsletter, thankfully!). Bill Schur is hard at work figuring out logistics and fun-filled activities for us. Five years is a long time to go without seeing each other, so fellows, if you can possibly make the time, I sincerely urge you to consider this opportunity.
Concurrently, our faithful mini-reunion chair Shel Prentice is also organizing a weekend getaway at Dartmouth's Minary Center on Squam Lake (better known to film buffs as "Golden Pond"). Details will also come viajohn Rockwell's newsletter. Minary is an absolutely stunning piece of property the College owns and maintains on one of New Hampshire's most beautiful lakes. Take a look at www.dartmouth.edu/~minary/ for fur- ther enticement!
Your executive committee met a few weeks ago by conference call. The majority of class business revolved around the aforementioned opportunities to reunite, but we did take a few minutes to affirm that our financial position is stable and that we are all on the same page vis-avis the class project, etc. I am pleased to report that all is well among us. So it goes for another issue, and I hope to see you soon! Yours in green always.
