TYLER STABLEFORD: "World's Greatest Adventure Photographer"

Stableford has ice-climbed through a blizzard in Utah's Wasatch Mountains and rappehed down a 3,300-foot cliff on El Capitan in Yosemite, all in pursuit of ar resting mages for clients such as Ford, Patagonia, Sports Illustrated and National WaS the StUnning shots he snapped after crawling hrough geothermal caves inside an Icelandic glacier that he believes inspired Men s Journal magazine to name him one of the "World's Greatest Adventure hotographers last May. "These somewhat ephemeral caves exist for maybe six months before collapsing," Stableford says of the nerve-racking cave shoot.

Stableford, who lives in Carbondale, Colorado, with wife Megan Currier '97 developed his outdoor skills at a young age, hiking and mountaineering in the White Mountains with his family (including father Bill '69). He began his career as a writer but, after editorial stints with Climbing and Rock and Ice magazines, devoted himself to photography two years ago (www.tylerstableford.com).

Now that internationally known Getty Images represents his work, Stableford plans to further stretch himself professionally. "Shooting adventure sports can get cliched after awhile. I still enjoy it, but I'm definitely looking to put more art and more journalism into my work," he says, citing legendary photographer James Nachtwey 70 as an inspiration.
