At this writing, the hours of day light are at their least and the hill winds remind us that winter in the north country stoutly resists the moderating effects of global warming. The early winter version of the class luncheon at the Norwich Inn was enjoyed by six classmates and wives. Three others cancelled due to the snowfall that morning, or, in the case of Ted Krug, were improved but not quite up to the conditions—his and the elements.

Ann and George Hartmann had an interesting tour in September. A previously planned cruise along the Croatian coast, a fascinating part of Europe off the tourist track, happened to coincide with the once-a-year trek of the Orient Express. Leaving from Paris, the train of about 15 cars, all pre-WWII vintage and elegantly refurbished, had three dining cars and a bar car complete with a baby grand and a marvelous pianist. The food rivaled Paris' best and some weight was gained. Overnights in Budapest and Bucharest included five-star hotels and side trips. Arrival in Istanbul on the sixth day was to much fanfare. After a few days of exploring on their own, the Hartmanns joined the cruise, which visited several islands along the coast of Croatia. Sounds like a real winner. And speaking of our esteemed treasurer, the notice of our class dues coming due included a letter written by Prexy Doug Thomson asking for a quick response to ease the workload of our hard working treasurer. In its own unique way, the College signed the letter as written by George, much to his chagrin.

Other traveling possibilities were raised by Bob Alden at the mini-reunion. A group tour to Sicily in March or April was proposed and several classmates were interested. At this writing, there are a few vacancies. Contact Bob if interested.

The recent special 100 th anniversary issue of the Alumni Magazine brought back some memories. The photos and our wintry conditions evoked remembrances of hustling to class across the common in January, the more expeditious when smoke from the heating plant stack rose straight up for half a mile.

Happy new year to Gunther Perdue, wherever you are.
