Treasurer George Hartmann tallies our "official" dues payers for this year at 277, a little better than budgeted. Jean and Ray Grinold have sold their Eastman abode and have moved to New London, New Hampshire. Our local paper, the Valley News, recently featured a photo of Jay Evans working his stint at the information boothon the Green. Jay has worked the booth for 16 years and splits the shift with wife, Fran. The Dartmouth Figure Skating Team, creation of Mike McGean, not only won its first National Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championship in March, but has since been granted "friends" status by the College, thanks to financial contributions from Paul Woodbury, "Deke" Jackson, Lee Bronson, John Stearns, John Adler and Jay Urstadt. Bob Nutt, golf czar at our recent reunion, reports seven foursomes turned out in fair weather. The top four winners were Fred Smith, who beat everyone under the Callaway system, followed by Mike Marchese, Ed Grant and Doug Parsons. The leading ladies were Joan Simpson and Shirley Krug. Shirley, it was reported, used to teach Smith golf. Smith College, that is. Pat and Gordon Thomas hosted their post-wedding celebration on August 14, and the lodge on Hogback Road was alive with classmates, friends and neighbors. The '49er group included John and Winnie Stearns, BJ and Doug Thompson, Barbara and Vail Haak, Bud Hughes and friend Barbara Warner, Lorrie and Dean Merrill, Donna and Bob Muenzberg and Joan and John Sweetland, Punchy managed to hold off the rain so his familiar deck was well used. Jay Rosenfield battles renal cancer, alternating between post sessions of chemo at Beth Israel in Boston and more familiar days of tennis and golf. A recent CAT-scan to check size of tumors revealed a 20 reduction from a test four weeks earlier— really positive news. We root for Jay. When this appears, the mini-reunion will be behind as well as the start of a new upbeat gridiron season. Hope to see some of you there.
