Mike O'Connell of Baraboo, Wisconsin, has published a new book, Cloud of Light:Portrait of a College Teacher. The book was written to honor David Cole, who was both teacher and colleague to Mike at University of Wisconsin Baraboo/Sauk County. After 14 years as a dairy farmer, Mike returned to his English major background and wrote some books of poetry in the 1990s as well as working for a local newspaper. In recent years he has been a part-time professor of English and has continued writing, including a couple of articles for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, "Rethinking Robert Frost" in 2003 and "A Professional," about Al McGuire who coached freshman basketball at Dartmouth from 1954 to 1956 and later coached at Marquette.

Russ Carson writes that his work as a trustee of the College, plus a full-time job are still keeping him on the go. When you are in Hanover visit the lovely building named in Russ' honor. It's just behind Baker Library.

Jack Heidbrink feels blessed in life. He is retired, has time for all his hobbies, is married to his best friend and has time to enjoy being with their five grandchildren.

Steve Farrow is hoping for better things from his Eagles now that T.O. has been let go. Steve also enjoys playing a good deal of tennis.

This year's Vail mini-reunion was another record-breaker, with more than 100 Dartmouth folks of various ages and stages gathering for a group picture at the ski lift and later for a cocktail party sponsored by the Dartmouth club of Vail. The class of '6s had 25 classmates, wives and children participating. Steve and Linda Waterhouse did a superb job as hosts and organizers. Rich Bloch, who attended with Sue and their daughter Rebecca, treated us to a delightful magic show on Saturday night. Friday we dined at Ron Riley's Russells Restaurant. Festivities also included a horse-drawn sleigh ride and lots of skiing under beautiful blue skies. The rest of the contingent included Jim Aiken and son Rob, Ted Atkinson and Marsha Pride, Tom and Diane Campbell, Norm and Ellen Christianson, Roger and Nancy Hansen, Chuck and Gretchen Lobitz, Tucky and Gabriella Mays, Ken McGruther, Marshall and Diane Wallach, and Bill Webster with sons Bill and Scott.

The class executive committee will be meeting at Bill Webster's house in Old Saybrook, Connecticut July 10. Please forward any questions or suggestions about class matters to Ken McGruther at mcgrutherk@aol.com or to me.

Also on the class agenda is the fall mini-reunion at Pierces Inn on October 13 to 15. For additional news visit the class Web site at www.biggreen65.com/.
