What a wonderful summer this has been in New England. I am composing this column looking out on the clear sky and waters of the coast of Maine. Life is good.
With respect to class activities, the executive committee meeting at Bill Webster's was the highlight of the summer. Ten classmates met to share ideas and plan for the coming year. We are fortunate in having classmates who are willing to give of their time and talents and to join us for the meeting. The attendees were: Jim Griffiths, Bob Blake, Bob McConnaughey, John Sottile, Ken McGruther, Jim Hamilton, Stu Keiller, Tucky Mays, Bill Webster and Roger Hansen.
Treasurer Bob Murphy reports that the class treasury remains in excellent shape. Thanks to Jim Griffiths and his posse of agents, our Alumni Fund drive was a success, with the total exceeding our goal. John Sottile, Webmaster, continues doing a spectacular job with the class of 1965 Web site.
In reviewing the class activities of the past year we find continuing success in pursuing the goal of increasing participation in the activities of the class as set forth by our president, Ken McGruther. During the past three years we have had increased participation in the number of classmates paying class dues and contributing to the Alumni Fund. The number and variety of out of-Hanover mini-reunions has increased under the leadership of Bob Blake and with the support of several others. These have included the Carnivail event organized by Steve Waterhouse, the mini at Disney World in January thanks to Donn Barclay and Robbie Robinson and the golf outing in Scottsdale, Arizona, lead by Punch Lochridge.
The major out-of-Hanover mini for 2008 will be the class of 1965 65th birthday party, which will be held the weekend of May 2-4. Planning for this event is being headed up by Ted Bracken. It promises to be a fun and memorable gathering.
For more details of the meeting and for more information about upcoming events please go to the class Web site at www.biggreen65.com.
The 29th annual class of 1965 mini-reunion at Pierce's Inn, which will be on Homecoming Weekend October 19-21, promises to be a delightful time. We are grateful to Bob and French McConnaughey for their fine work in putting this event together.
Please pass along to me any news about yourself or other classmates as well as any commentary you would like to share.
