Classmate Bill Mackey personifies the famous Mark Twain quote regarding reports of his death being exaggerated. The College database reflected that Bill was deceased, so Hank Amon was surprised to receive a message from him inquiring about classmate Frank Binder. I had an interesting phone conversation with Bill, who assured me that he is among the living, despite some rough times about 10 years ago. After graduation and ROTC he had a 27-year Navy career with a variety of interesting assignments. Upon retirement he worked as a volunteer with the Sierra Club and other organizations till 1997, when he had a stroke, related to a congenital heart defect. The defect was successfully repaired but he is left with a paralysis on the left side. After a period of rehabilitation he learned to drive and otherwise function independently. He now resides in Hollywood, Florida, with his two cats. He enjoys reading and using his computers. He attends courses at a local computer shop on a regular basis. It's good to have Bill back in touch with the class.
Washington, D.C., was the site of our class of'65 65th birthday party on the first weekend in May. Ted Braken and his committee organized a marvelous event with lots of opportunities for visiting, touring, meals and cocktails. Folks came from far and near. Ed and Terry Keible from California have agreed to organize a future mini-reunion in Monterey. Ted Atkinson and Marcia Pride have recently moved to Colorado. Rich and Sue Bloch continue to pursue their legal careers in the D.C. area, while Rich hones his magic skills. He gave a delightful performance at the Saturday night banquet. Another high point of the weekend was the brunch at Ted and Anne Bracken's house and subsequent walking tour of Georgetown. Peter Crockett carries on an interesting psychology practice in Alexandria, Virginia. John and Andrea Glovsky came down from Massachusetts for the gathering and to visit children and grandchildren in the area. Other members of the organizing committee included Bob and French McConnaughey, Bob Blake, Don Boardman, Pete and Marcia Frederick, Mark Efron, and Bob Koury.
Also attending were Steve and Cheli Banta, Carl and Mimi Boe, Bob and Barbara Busch, Dave and Louise Bush, Tom and Dianne Campbell, Harry Crosswell and Greg and Chris Fahlund. Rounding out the crew were Ken McGruther and Audrey Romney, Frank and Cindie Hermes, Eric and Jeanne Knox, Mike Lewis and Linda Singer, Tom and Susan Long, Rick and Linda Mahoney, Ned McCook, Lee and Deb Mercer, Dave Milkowski, Matt Morrison, Howie and Mary Lee Mueller, Jim and Nancy Roche, Bruce and Betsy Wagner, Bill and Sue Webster and Tom and Karen Wise. What a terrific turnout!
