On New Year's Eve, we lost Mike Martin, a friend, father and son who made a real difference in the lives of his friends and family and in the community he was proud to call home. Mike's parents and friends have created the Michael Martin Community Fund to honor and celebrate his memory by benefiting those organizations and causes that were so important to him. The Michael Maitin Community Fund has been established as an advised fund through The Denver Foundation, an umbrella foundation that will help administer and manage the fund. Organizers hope to raise enough funds to make a real difference in the same way that Mike did. At the outset this will be a non-endowed fund, with the proceeds being distributed to various causes. However, the goal is to raise enough money to create an endowed fund benefiting these causes for years to come. If you would like to remember Mike by making a contribution, please send your donations made out to "The Michael Martin Community Fund," care of the Denver Foundation, 950 South Cherry St., Suite 200, Denver, CO 80246. Since grants from this fund will be made only to qualified nonprofit organizations, your donation is tax deductible. You will receive a letter of acknowledgement and tax receipt from the Denver Foundation. Thank you so much for joining with us to build a legacy celebrating Mike's life. Ifyou have questions, please don't hesitate to contact one of the organizers: Peter Daniels, Dirk Tyler, Ruth Ann Keene or Don Martin (michael martin community fund (yahoo.com).
Geoff Parker is working for Goldman Sachs as part of the team developing its new headquarters building in lower Manhattan. He wrote: "Last September 800 Dartmouth rugby club alums arrived in Hanover to attend the opening dedication of the brand new Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse. It is an amazing facility, with a 6,500 square-foot clubhouse and two great rugby pitches located across Lyme Road from the golf course. Most importantly, the old alums (classes of 1993 and older; led by a core of'86s), captained by the ageless Raoul Socher, soundly defeated the younger alums in the alum match. Other '86s who participated were Priscilla Car others, TeddyConway, Peter Gibson, Celeste Grace, Greg Hulbert,Rob Hunger, Chris Keating, Nick Leventis, Rich Levitan,Charles Mark walter, Lewis Owens and RobThomson."
Introducing a new member of the class of 2028: William John Ewing was born to Ann Rooney Ewing and her family on February 19. In mid-November Mary Frances Spatola Sabo traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to speak at a conference on the uninsured. While in Louisville Mary Frances had dinner with Marian Halliday Lewis, whom she had not seen for about 17 years! Marian is a securities compliance officer/attorney in Louisville who has two wonderful sons in sixth and fifth grades. Ray Holtorf, his wife, Rhea, and sons Steffen (7) and Luke (5) moved to the diverse lowa community of Perry about 35 miles north of Des Moines. Ray is the director of HR at a local hospital there. Ray wrote, "We dug a pond this last summer, thus touching off a terrible drought. I know my classmates in California will not sympathize, although I suspect those in Texas might. I now have a big garden tractor, a tiller and a huge garden to go with the empty pond. The hill that connects the house and the pond provide for some world-class sledding, which is convenient when you have 7- and 5-year-olds and are 42 going on 12!"
