From San Francisco to New York, Singapore to London and many points in between, we sure are representing Dartmouth in a variety of places and a variety of ways.
Dan Estabrook gives us news of himself, as well as several classmates: "I've relocated back to San Francisco with The Nature Conservancy, where I had worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am leading the northern California fundraising team and helping to save land and biodiversity for future generations. We are beginning to determine our role with climate change and have preserves and projects in all 50 U.S. states and 30 countries. I just celebrated my 10th year at Burning Man, that crazy festival in the Nevada desert, and am partnered with a great guy who is moving to San Francisco to join me this fall. It's great to be back in San Francisco—in my first week I ran into Gregg Brockway at a fundraising event. He is president of Classic Custom Vacations here in the Bay Area. I spoke recently to Ron Grant, who has twin boys and a new daughter with wife Ashley. Russell Stevens stopped by for a night in Santa Fe last year and is living in the Boston area with wife Jill and family. Tony Mavrinac is practicing law in Detroit and is about to be a father; Kathie (Pinnette) Child-Villiers is living in England with her family; Chris Kelly is still in New York; Tom Ward is with Abercrombie & Fitch in Cleveland; and Rachel Dratch is still making us laugh on SNL. Everyone is busy with kids, careers and becoming parents. I missed the 15th reunion but look forward to our next one in a couple of years. If you are in San Francisco and want to connect, please e-mail me at dan@estabrook.com."
In Singapore since 1997, Ed Sim is a partner in Hunton & Williams, a U.S. law firm, practicing international trade law. He writes: "I represent companies and governments accused of unfair trading practices. My wife, Wee Yu Lin, is a Singaporean and quit practicing law to raise our sons Ryan (3) and Jordan (6 months). We are active in the small but energetic alumni club here."
In his own words, Steve Nichols is "still building and driving race cars and teaching physics to business students. Other than that, trying to keep my job amidst radical departmental restructuring and politics. Same old same old."
With his news, Jeffrey Wutzke reminds us of the joys of renovating old houses: "My partner Cai and I are living in Phoenix, where we're thankfully nearing the end of a major remodel and addition to our house. All things being relative, Phoenix considers our 1939 house to be in a 'historic' district and so it required jumping major bureaucratic hurdles before we could start work—even as the house deteriorated around us. The nadir came in August of last year, when the air conditioning broke (in Phoenix, in. the summer!) and a roof leak from a sumrrier storm caused a bedroom ceiling to collapse. All is looking up now, though, and we should be moving in within a couple months. Four days before my 40th I was lucky enough to be voted in as an equity partner at the law firm Lewis and Roca—so I can hold my head high and say I made partner before 40! Rick Otto is living in Los Angeles (Venice) with his partner Troy; they are on track to move to Vermont sometime this spring. Bill Spencer is living in Boulder, Colorado, with his partner Mike, and I think Bill had returned to school for a masters."
