The TV screen was considerably brightened on January 23 with the introduction of a new program on ABC featuring the King Sisters and their families. We know Donna King as Mrs. James B. Conkling. On Christmas morning the Kings presented their brood to the TV audience as guests on the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show and they were a most photogenic group and a wonderful endorsement for the California environment. Although Jim Conkling didn't appear, I'll bet he was in the wings somewhere and if you tune in the King Sisters one of these winter evenings, he might just pop onto the screen. Raphael Hillyer is violinist with the Juilliard String Quartet, one of the finest string ensembles now appearing on the American concert stage. In the metropolitan New York area we are fortunate to see and hear them frequently on TV, Channel 13. The quartet travels extensively during the concert season.

Dan Holland of Quechee, Vt., is a free lance photographer and a student of natural history. The December issue of "Field and Stream" carried an article written by Dan entitled "A Shot in the Dark." It explains his technique for obtaining wild animal shots. The animals trip the shutter and flash themselves. The results are sometimes surprising. He concludes, "One of these nights I may get a picture of something I don't want to see at all, something so frightening that I'll pack up my camera and move back to the city." Who ever heard of the Abominable Snowman in Vermont!
A few months ago this column showed a picture of Henry Dearborn, Counselor of the United States Embassy, Bogota, Colombia, unveiling a bust of the late President John F. He and his wife, Maria-Rosa, have found the foreign service a rewarding but demanding life and most work days are twelve hours long. Their son, Ricky, is at Georgetown Prep in Washington, D. C., while their daughter, Pamela, is attending the local high school in Bogota.

Louis and Margaret Benezet have established a memorial for their son, Joel '66, who died in a Vermont highway accident last year. Louis has suggested that the memorial be used for recognizing "a capacity for responsibility and concern for others
even in the sophomore year these ageless aims of education found expression in his life and death." Next October President Dickey will take a group of 12 sophomores to the College Grant for a weekend retreat to "discuss human concerns and problems and a sense of responsibility for the community" as the first plan for the Benezet Memorial. The College has received additional donations to this fund.
If the little woman has been hinting that your furniture is ready for Goodwill Industries, she might have been looking at a recent series of ads run by Conant Ball Co. Charlie Brooks is president of this fine furniture company in Gardner, Mass., which has been showing off its lovely colonial adaptations. If you haven't seen the ads, send 10¢ for their illustrated folder.
Frank and Rhoda Teagle are enjoying their lovely home on the hillside overlooking Woodstock, Vt. Frank is owner-manager of the Elm Tree Press in Woodstock which produces a printed page of fine quality and originality. At this time of the year Ed Chamberlain and Stoney Jackson are up to their ears in the Admissions Office attempting to choose next September's freshman class. If you happen to visit these gentlemen in Hanover as a harassed parent or merely as a passerby, be sure to notice the wonderful paintings which decorate the offices. They are the work of Stoney Jackson .who is quite talented as an artist. I'm hoping our 30th reunion committee will arrange an art show of '36 artists in Hopkins Center. Do we have any sculptors?
You might have seen mention in the press of a new Peter Sellers movie "What's New, Pussycat." This was filmed in Paris and started out as a showcase for unknown young talent. The big names crowded out the unknowns, except for Frank and Gerry Kappler's son, Frank, who is spending his junior year in France. Frank has a bit part. You can't miss him — he is blond and six foot four.
Walter Allen has a new address at 28 Gregory Street, Danbury, Conn., and Dexter Martin at 1211 Gateway Lane, West Chester, Pa. Perhaps they will let us know what they are doing in these new locations. Meanwhile if you are in Florida or the Ba-Hamas drop me a card — or maybe the Costa Brava has enticed you. Oh, well, the winter's half over anyway.
