As I write this column summer is in tull swing in the Northeast. A series of days with temperature and humidity readings upwards of 80 (degrees and percent, respectively) have caused us all to break out the air conditioners, iced tea, barbeque tools and tiki torches once again. During the past few weeks the World Cup has captivated much of the world (including the United States, despite an early exit by the Americans from the tournament), another class of Dartmouth men and women has joined the alumni ranks and the Red Sox have absolutely dominated their National League opponents. In this installment I bring you news of exotic travel plans, babies and political aspirations.

Anne (Renna) Owens dropped me a line to let me know that she and husband Nicholas are enjoying the nice weather in Chicago (despite working too hard) and planning a trip to China and Japan in September. Send us some pictures when you return, Anne, and we'll try to fold them into an upcoming newsletter!

Suzanne (Michels) Obenshain turned down an invitation to network with other private equity professionals (and those, like me, who seek to do their legal work) with the following very good excuse: "Thanks so much for the invite. I'm actually out on maternity leave at the moment and so won't be able to make it. Our [Suzanne's husband is Andrew Obenshain '96] son Thad William Obenshain was born two weeks ago [on May 17] and I'm at home until the end of August. Talk about a different world! But I must say that the thought of adult conversation does have a big draw for me these days." Welcome, Thad. Congratulations to Mom and Dad.

A little birdie told me that the stork will be paying a-visit to Marni (Fox) Payne and husband Josh Payne '96 this fall, too. No word from the parents-to-be as to the name or gender of the child, but given the good gene pool from which he/she will be descended I expect him/her to be, as we like to say in Massachusetts, wicked smaaht.

Finally, Aaron Klein wrote in to spread the word that he's running for office: 'After five years working for Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) as the Democrats' chief economist on the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, I have decided to pursue my dream of representing my home community as a state delegate in Maryland's 20th District (Silver Spring and Takoma Park). I have had the support of many fellow Dartmouth classmates, including Meg and David Lysy'99, Sarah Harris 'OO and David McDowell '97; who all live in the area, as well as many other classmates throughout the country. I would love the help of any and all who are in the D.C. area. For those who are not in the area, any donations would be incredibly helpful as friends and classmates will be reading this in the final moments of the campaign! (The primary is September 12)."
