The foliage may turn red and orange, but it's really the season of the Big Green.
TEAM OVERALL (IVY) FALL 2005 RECORD 2006 SCOUTING REPORT FOOTBALL 2-8 (1-6) Hopes for a resurgence took a serious hit with the suspension of quarterback Josh Cohen '09, who started the last six games of the 2005 campaign. A trio of incoming freshman signal-callers, including Alexander Jenny '10, whose father roomed with Coach Teevens here, will try to plug the QB hole. WOMEN'S SOCCER 12-5-1 (5-2) In her debut season last fall coach Angie Hind guided Dartmouth to a second-place finish in the Ivy League and an NCAA Tournament berth. A repeat performance seems likely this year. Sarah Johnson '07 2005's leading scorer and an All-Ivy selection, should help the team get past the NCAAs first round. MEN'S SOCCER 10-3-5 (5-1-1) Can they pull off a three-peat? A main concern of the back-to-back Ivy champs will be finding a way to replace departed offensive stars such as Darnell Nance '06, P.J. Scheufele '06 and Scott Darci '05. Veterans include netminder Rowan Anders '07 who tied for an Ivy-leading eight shutouts last fall. FIELD HOCKEY 9-8 (5-2) Last year's stick handlers captured three of their last four contests to finish second among Ivies. This year's squad hopes to convert that momentum into Dartmouth's first league title in 16 years. 2005 All-Ivy honoree Whitney Waugh '08 will provide scoring punch; the incoming class includes Hanover High graduate Chelsea Dodds '10, who should single-handedly boost attendance. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY 1st in Heptagonals Harriers had a great year in 2005, winning the Heps (where Ail-American Ben True '08 won an individual title), qualifying for the NCAAs and placing four on the All-Ivy first team. The strong will get stronger with New Hampshire stars John Schroder '10 of Nashua and Alex Hall '10 of Manchester. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY 7th in Heptagonals The team will miss All-American Melanie Schorr '06, but Rhode Islander Hillary Dionne '07—who finished sixth in last year's spring Heps—will try to help the team regain its footing. EQUESTRIAN 1st at New Hampshire Show, 2nd at four others Don't worry about the number of strong riders lost to graduation; the Big Green has a habit of putting accomplished recruits into the saddle. WOMEN'S GOLF —-- The team's youth of the past couple seasons has morphed into maturity, marking this season as make-or-break. Veteran co-captains Hayley Stevens '07 and Annie Daher '07 will shoulder a good deal of the load. MEN'S GOLF --- After a trio of second-place finishes last fall at the Dartmouth Invitational, the ECAC Championship and the New England Championships, the team is looking for firsts. Reigning team MVP Jamie Wallace '08, who finished only one shot out of first place in last fall's Dartmouth Invitational, wants gold. WOMEN'S TENNIS --- Four sophs plus seasoned players add up to a net gain. Much is expected from Megan Zebroski '08, who in two years has made the All-Ivy doubles team twice—with two different partners, no less— in addition to gaining a spot on the All-Ivy second team in singles last year. MEN'S TENNIS --- Not since April 16,2004, has the team won an Ivy League match victory. The wait has been long enough. Returning captain Dave Waslen '07's clock is ticking. WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL 12-12 (5-9) The graduation of Sarah Nadler '06 will hurt, but Dartmouth is set upon continuing the improvement it showed in doubling its 2004 win total last year. MEN'S & WOMEN'S CREW --— After winning the [Dartmouth-Harvard-MIT] Biglin Bowl for only the third time in 57 years last spring, the lightweight men's boats are riding a wave of confidence. With the women coming off of last spring's first victory over Radcliffe since 1998, a common goal is to beat Harvard again—oar else. SAILING —-- Three-time All-American Erik Storck '07 is at the helm of the perennial national championship contenders. Killarney Loufek '07 also coming off an All-America nod, further strengthens the squad.
