Hello '99s! The holiday season is upon us and another year is quickly coming to an end. We have lots of news to share. I must begin this update on a sad note. On July 5 Mango Wangel passed away at her home in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mango truly led a life of perseverance and determination, and her passing has left a void in the lives of many. Mango came to Dartmouth with the ambition of be coming a doctor. However, she returned home following her freshman year and became the proud parent of two children, Nalin, now 10, and Jonah, 7. Mango resumed her studies in 2001, majoring in women's and gender studies, and graduated in 2005. Mango remained in the Upper Valley and had strong links in the community. A memorial service was held at the Bema on July 12, which was attended by several faculty from the women's studies department, Alice Hartley 'OO and Jessie Foote 'O1 as well as friends and teachers of her children. Those wanting to honour Mangos memory are invited to contribute to the Mango Wangel Memorial Fund, which was set up to contribute to the well-being of her children (see obituary for further information).

In other news, Sean Taylor writes that Kirsten Earl and Daniel Powell 'oo were married in a beautiful ceremony at the Bema in Hanover on a perfect July afternoon. The reception was held at the new lodge at the Dartmouth Skiway and there was a strong '99 contingent, including Marc Bruni, Rachel Derkits, Erik Tanouye, Sean Taylor and Pete Land. Michael Tierney and Bridget (Finn) Tierney also came along, bringing their children Joseph and Katie on yet another visit to the College on the Hill. When not in Hanover, Bridget regularly spends time with Emily (Cornell) Ruiz and Kelly (Carpenter) Mor and their children. Following the wedding Sean and Erik returned to New York just in time to perform with an all-Dartmouth alum improv comedy troupe called Hop Fries. While Erik is currently teaching and performing improat the Upright Citizens Brigate Theatre, Sean hosts a new talk show called The Spotlight, which features guests who have been on television.

Additionally, our Dartmouth family continues to grow. Michael Silberstein writes that he and his wife, Devon, welcomed their first child, Emma Lauren, into the world on July 26. Michael is a fourth-year general surgery resident at NYU and notes that "mom and baby are sharing in my lifetime of sleepless nights." Brian Salazar has also become a new parent. Brian and his wife, Courtney (Holy Cross '99), welcomed their daughter Erin Olivia Salazar on June 6. Lastly, Kyle Marchesseault and Marisa Howe '98 became the proud parents of their daughter Eleanor on May 18. Congratulations to you all!

Finally, as you get ready for this season of good food and family get-togethers,you might try to get a tip or two from Norrinda Brown. Norrinda a lawyer by training, pursued her passion for cooking and, along with her mother, founded the Brown Betty Dessert Boutique in Philadelphia. Their bakery is off to a great start, having been named "Best of Philadelphia" last year by a city magazine and a local newspaper, and their story is featured in the September issue of O: The OprahMagazine.

That's all the news for now. I wish you all the best in this holiday season and look forward to sharing your stories in the New Year!
