Goose Gemberling sent pictures of the minireunion managed by Ben McAdams last spring. They can be viewed on the '58 Web page. It was a successful outing, with about 20 folks in attendance at the Sea Venture Resort in Pismo Beach, California. It was such fun that it is very likely to be run again next year. Amongst the contingent were Tony Gittes, John Murphy. Ralph Manuel, Fred Kosmo, Pete Kenny, Ben and Goose.
Another '58 gathering took place in Palm Springs/Desert with pictures, which can also be seen on the Web site, provided by Hal Douglas. Lots of golf and reminiscing, including Jack Stromberg, Don Klages, Ted Harris, Bill Smith, Tryg Myhren and Hal.
Bill Hartley writes from Hong Kong that he enjoys the Web page, as it seems to remove some of the physical distance from there to here, regarding class news.
Many of us in the class have celebrated, or will celebrate, our 50th high/prep school reunions this year. One such mate is Pete Olsen, who helped run his 50th at Wilbraham Academy. Pete ran into an official there, whose dad was Dartmouth '45 and great friend of Ralph Manuel, and related to Pete a story about his dads fishing trip with Ralph about 10 years ago. Tragically, the father, a dentist from Springfield, Massachusetts, overestimated his ability with a canoe and drowned, after capsizing in a dangerous waterfall on the College Grant. Ralph has been going on this annual fishing trek every June for 33 years, with Dave Bradley and others.
He recalled the time, in 1972, when he and John Sloan Dickey were at the Grant and Dickey taught Ralph howto fish during the day and make a martini at day's end. Ralph obviously received a good grade in both courses.
Still time to make plans to attend our 2004 mini-reunion to be held in conjunction with the classes of '57, '59 and '6O. It will be on the Yale weekend, October 8-10. As this is the height of the fall color season, a limited number of rooms are available. Try\ Alden Country Inn (800-7942296) or Breakfast on the Connecticut (603353-4444)
Word was received that Phil Webster, of Yelm, Washington, died last November 30. The class extends its sympathy to his wife, Sally, and the family.
