My absolute favorite part of this job is being first in line for news like this, which came to me via an e-mail from Greg Rodgers:
"Was reading the Alumni Magazine and your class update. I've been meaning to write in to let folks know about our relocation from L.A. to N.Y.C. in August of 2006. I'm a partner at the international law firm of Latham & Watkins. I specialize in corporate finance, particularly high-yield bond and convertible debt offerings, so the move to New York made a lot of sense from a career perspective. Leah (Tarpy) and I have been having a lot of fun hanging out with our East Coast Dartmouth friends and would love to reconnect with more."
Leah was one of my freshman-year roommates and though we had managed to stay in touch when we were both in L.A., I haven't seen her in years—so I felt it was my Dartmouth duty to look her up. While my son Danny happily stuffed his mouth with Central Park dirt, Leah and I filled one another in on the past several years. They're living in a beautiful apartment in midtown and really enjoying the New York experience. They're also in touch with lots of long-unheardfrom '94s, so look for updates in future columns. In the meantime, you too can get in touch with Greg at jollyrodgers@mac.com and Leah at leahtrodgers@yahoo.com.
I've also been enjoying spending time with another old friend, Michael Lepore, who lives in Washington Heights with his partner Ben Schneider (such a nice boy, and Jewish!). After Dartmouth Michael moved to New York City to earn an M.F.A. from Columbia University before going to work as a television online producer at Martha Stewart Omnimedia (incidentally, Michael was the only one who responded to last year's desperate plea about turmeric stainsthanks, Martha!). For the past five years Michael has been running his own marketing/graphic design studio, Mighty Design Studios, where his clients include Showtime, Common Ground, L'Oreal and Infinity Info.
And speaking of running, Michael will be competing in his second N.Y.C.Triathlon (which, listen to this, includes swimming in the Hudson River) this July to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I live on the Hudson River and I think Michael deserves a medal just for diving in. If you are interested in sponsoring Michael or just getting in touch, you can do both at mightydesignstudios.com/tnt. (Incidentally, if you're interested in saving the Hudson, go to www.riverkeeper.org. Go Pete Seeger!).
Segueing into more amazing athletic feats, I also heard from Nina (Cook) Silitch, who wrote in from Chamonix, France, where she lives with her husband and two boys, ages I and 3."I am balancing being a full-time mom with being one of two American women ski mountaineering racing in Europe. I am trying to qualify for the U.S. ski mountaineering team next year. In addition I assist my husband, a UIAGM mountain guide, with his business, High-Alpine Mountain Guides— American specialists in the Alps." So if you've ever wanted to ski Chamonix, are interested in alpine or sports climbing or are looking for a personalized European cross country ski or bike adventure, checkout their Web site at www.high-alpine.com.
On the "more on my speed" note, I'm happy to report that Nathan Saunders and wife Pam (Quinn) Saunders '95 welcomed their second child, Andrew Halleck Saunders, on January 22. He joins older sister Milla in the Saunders household. Thanks guys, for naming him afteryour old Panarchy buddy and my husband Andrew Hyman; hewas terribly flattered. Okay, well, wishful thinking anyway.
