Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her birthday she made an appearance at Radio City Music Hall for the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from TheSound of Music. Here are some of the lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pace makers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favorite things.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bath robes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favorite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, I just remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad.
We can echo those sentiments as we compile our own things that bring us joy. Bob "Slip" Rainie could lead the way as he counts the 15 band concerts he played in this year in Concord, New Hampshire. Ed Stone in Wakefield, Massachusetts, keeps busy with his work at the track. His horse, named after Unc Richardson, was expected to come up from Florida this fall but the vets say he has a "growing problem" and isn't ready to run with the horses at Suffolk Downs. Hang in there, Stoney.
