The holiday edition of "Punchy" Thomas' gathering for lunch at the Norwich Inn happened December 6 with 20 classmates and spouses in attendance. The occasion included president DougThomson telling of the Mike McGean Figure Skating Endowment Fund reaching the $57,000 level, which includes the $10,000 initial contribution from our class. At this writing comes the news that Mike now has 24-hour care after a couple of falls and living alone. Physically frail but with wits intact, Mike copes.
Among those more athletically inclined at our stage is Paul Woodberry, who has competed in 22 races of the 5K variety. Go Paul. And Jay Evans has run a few himself, and has also recently attended the induction ceremony for the new Harvard president Drew Gilpin Faust, who was a fifth-grade student of Jays geography class when he was headmaster. Other talented classmates include Bob Nutt. After years in advertising in New York Bob moved to the Upper Valley, where he works as a freelance writer and editor for this magazine. After long involvement in the theater Bob has written a comedy titled Beau's Art, which has won the White River Indie Films first screenwriting competition. It's the story of Derek, an aspiring Los Angeles artist entrusted with the care of Beau, an orangutan with artistic talent. From here there's plenty to puncture the art world's affectations. Bob will need an agent.
The Big Green's football season wasn't great, but 3 and 7 is an improvement. As Buddy Teeven's recruiting efforts come to full play, the phrase maybe "justwait till next year." This year's mini-reunion will be the Yale game weekend, October 11.
Our class ranks are depleted with the deaths of Ted Davenport, Luke Soule and John Sweetland. Luke attended the mini in September.
