At this reading the 2008 mini is in the offing. The weekend of the Yale game, it begins with the early-bird dinner Thursday night at the Norwich Inn. The Ken McClain bash on Friday night and the class meeting on Saturday morning are both in the faculty lounge in the Hop. The Saturday night banquet will be at Dowd's Country Inn at Lyme, New Hampshire, the Hanover Inn having priced itself beyond the satisfaction of Bull Moose Stearns, his swan song as minichairman. Sunday brunch is at the Sunapee Lake shore home of Barbara and Jay Rosenfield, just offI-89. Should be a good weekend. Hope to see you there.
Our annual late winter trek to Florida to visit our daughter included a visit to the new Marine Corps Museum near Quantico, Virginia. An interesting and well done touristfriendly visit, it is close by I-95. Among the art exhibits are several paintings by our own Mike Gish. Among the transplants are Fran and Jay Evans to a new homestead near Concord, New Hampshire. Another coping with 45 years of homestead "collectibles" is Paul Bjorkland, relocating to Virginia, near son and family. Jay Urstadt set a new world championship meet record in the 50-meter breaststroke, for ages 80-84 at the World Masters swimming meet in Perth, Australia.
The last DMM issue had a story on campus security. It is a sign of the times that currently there are 34 officers at Dartmouth, a fraction of most other Ivies. But the Big Green is highest in liquor law violations, a reflection of the tight state law. Lest old traditions fail. Remember the single figure of our day—the furtive, avoided Nelson Wormwood?
Our recent losses include Roger Cabot, John Balatow, Russell Blackwood and William McMorrow.
