Real winter has finally come to the North Country and also to many of you. Our winter days in Hanover seemed to dominate the academic year with the Carnival as the lodestar. Remember the DOC ice statue in front of McNutt? The Indian and the mermaid?

As the Alumni Council rep for classes post 55th, Vail Haak is our inside man and his recent e-mail to us hints of the machinations of the Alumni Council in the wake of the repeal of portions of the bylaws.

A Valentine's Day version of Gordon Thomas' class luncheons at the Norwich Inn drew seven classmates and spouses. It happened on the Tuesday before Wednesdays Valentines Day. Agood thing too, for the big snow dump came on The Day! In addition to Punchy and Pat were the couples Krug, Evans, Hartmannn, Nutt, Merrill and Stearns.

A letter of thanks was received from the Tucker Foundation for our donation to sustain and improve its worthy programs. Another demonstration of social awareness at Dartmouth.

The weekend of April 13-15 will be special. The collegiate figure skating finals at Thompson Arena featuring our three times national championship club team. Friday noon at the Hanover Inn will host the testimonial luncheon for our Mike McGean (read more on him in "Newsmakers," page 63). That evening there will be an informal dinner gathering with Thad Seymour for those who were acquainted with him.

The loss of classmates includes John Stock-well, Seward Weber, Ernie Beattie George Swick and William Newberry.
