February 13: An all-day rain is ruining last night's snow. Many of us will be 75 this year. Write ore-mail me howyou will be celebrating the event.
Ross and Irene Robbins are on the beautiful 7-mile-long island of Boca Grande on the west coast of Florida, north of Naples with no highrise buildings. They gather 15 to 20 Dartmouth couples in March each year and are actively engaged in a local community center, school and library, serving on its board.
Randy and Betty Hayes are at Jensen Beach, Florida. They went on an excellent overseas adventure safari of 24 days in October, visiting Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, four game parks and Victoria Falls. They saw one other Land Rover and had the park all to themselves with great lodging. They went on to Cape Town with a stop in the wine country. Betty continues to beat Randy on the golf course. They will celebrate their 50th in Barbados.
Warren and Sally Peterson live in Key Largo, Florida, in the winter and are waiting for their condominium to be completed in Lake Forest, Illinois, where their primary residence has been throughout the years. They are busy with golf, tennis and their powerboat. The Petersons will be among 80 at the Savannah mini April 3-6.
Jerry and Susan O'Sullivan live in Naples, Florida, for eight months of theyear. Jerry is playing golf four times per week with new knees. Their son runs Engineered Sales Cos., which Jerry started many years ago. He would have been pleased at the January 15 men's hockey game I watched with Mike Gorton. Coming from behind Dartmouth beat a good Boston University team with two goals in the third period.
Mike and Karen Gorton are soon headed to Hawaii to celebrate his brother Senator Slades Both birthday.
Lew and Joan Weintraub continue to live in Wayland, Massachusetts, near their sons John and Dan. Lew has practiced hematology for many years at the Boston University Medical Center. He continues to see private patients and teaches tutorials four days a week, having recovered from health issues that required a kidney transplant, a gift of his wife, Joan. His tutoring has a long history. I remember many freshmen premeds coming to seek his help.
Gene and Marcy Elsbree live in Atherton, California, not very far from the beautiful campus of Stanford, where Gene obtained his M.B.A. He plays tennis three times per week. Mike Gorton stopped by to play with Gene when he was on the West Coast and reported that Gene is "very good." The Elsbrees visit Kauai, Hawaii, a couple times a year, on the sunny side of the island.
Elliot and Elaine Smith have a third great granddaughter. Elliot was the first grandparent at our 25th. Another Smith record!
Gus Aberle has visited 44 countries. Can anyone beat that? He and Norene celebrated Thanks giving with their daughter in California. He says: Go to French Laundry Restaurant in Napa— "world class!"
