The Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association (BADA) is looking forward to the May 2008 Reunion "Lifting As We Climb." BADA continues to organize events around the country. In late October BADA alumni gathered in D.C. for a brunch organized by Todd Cranford '87. Attendees included Nels Armstrong '71, Da'aga Hill-Bowman '79, Ben Wilson '74 and Stuart Simms '72. In December BADA alums gathered for a night of art and cocktails in Atlanta. Attendees included Ricki Fairley Brown '78, Craig Triplett '76 and Mark Brown '81. Look for upcoming events in Boston and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Congratulations to Renai Rodney '99 for winning a Social Justice Award, Emerging Leadership, during the College's MLK Celebration.
The Dartmouth Association of Latino Alumni is excited to announce its new executive board: president Alexis Sainz '96, VP Elkin Cabas '06, secretary Liz Agosto '01, fundraising chair Hernan Ortiz '06 and Alumni Council representative Jennifer Bustamante '01. The group would like to thank outgoing board members for their service these last two years: Ernesto Cuevas '98, James Gallo '99, Jaime Guzman '97 and Jose Paredes '01. The Dartmouth Asian Pacific American Alumni Association (DAPAAA) is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008! In August DAPAAA will be holding a banquet in Chinatown, New York City, for newly admitted Dartmouth students to meet and interact with alumni and current students. DAPAAA is planning events for San Francisco, Boston and the Washington, D.C., area. Special thanks to Debra Liu '07 and Kim Sheu '07 for organizing a great DAPAAA mixer with Nora Ya- sumura in New York City this past November. Alums in attendance included Belinda Chiu '98, Andrew Chu '01, Troy Stewart '07, Victoria Moy '04, Alan Cheng '03, Serena Chang '05, Anna Sian '07, Yuhka Miura '00, Sarah Chaudhry '07, Alice Jia '06 and Steven Yum '07.
The Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni/ae Association (DGALA) organized a visit to New York City in January by Pam Misener, assistant dean of student life and advisor to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, and Uriel Barrera-Vasquez '98, associate director of alumni diversity. DGALAs New York City regional development co-chairs Brendan Connell '87 and Athena Maikish '00 planned the highly successful event at The Dish in Chelsea, which attracted, among others, professor of music Steve Swayne, Nick Chamousis '73, Harold Washington '75, Chuck Edwards, Adv'86, Keith Boykin '87, DGALA vice president Garrett Hornsby '87, DGALA president Susi Kandel '00, Tim Stanne '03, Kiva Wilson '04, Ricky Cole '06, Vivian Chung '07 and Ray Rodriguez '09, DGALA is busy planning two upcoming reunions in Hanover: the annual June breakfast and minireunion scheduled for June 13-15 and the next DGALA all-class reunion scheduled for October 9-11,2009.
The Native American Alumni Association of Dartmouth (NAAAD) held a mini-reunion event in Phoenix, Arizona, in January. The day started with a museum visit and tour centered on the exhibit, "Remix: New Modernities in a Post-Indian World," featuring Anna Tsouhlarakis '99 and Brian Miller, senior lecturer in studio art. A reception was held afterwards at Casino Arizona featuring dinner and an appearance by Cara Wallace '03, acting director of the Native American program at Dartmouth. Debbie Atuk, Tu'04, Hans Klose '93, Janine Fate Avner '80, Deanne Dick '98, Daron Carreiro '02, Arvina Martin '02 and Guila Irwin '03 were there. In February NAAAD won Affiliated Group of the Year honors at the Club and Affiliated Groups Officers Weekend in Hanover.
