When you read this our 60th reunion will have come and gone. Details will appear in Dick Dahl's postreunion newsletter, but the late-April deadline for these notes prevent me from writing anything except that John Hatheway and Bud Gedney have done a great job arranging a tremendous program.

For many years these notes have been written by Bob Herrick, who has served as class secretary since 2002 and was also editor of the outstanding 50 th reunion yearbook and its recently published 60th reunion successor. As he stated in the last Class Notes, Bob has decided to no longer continue as secretary. We accept his decision reluctantly but with great appreciation for his many contributions, which have helped make 1948 strong.

Late last year the Alumni Council revised its constitution, and one of the changes was to increase the number of post-55-year reunion representatives from one to three. I met with several other 1948s who had served on the council and we easily agreed that Jim Schaefer was more than worthy of nomination. Presidents of the eligible classes constituted the voting electorate, and I am delighted to report that Jim won out over the five other nominees. Jim, who is the first 1948 representative on the council since 2002, will be reporting significant council activity to us throughout his membership.

Until the fall of 2009, when a new secretary is scheduled to be elected, the responsibility for this column will be shared by several classmates. Please contact me if you would like to help.
