June is a time of graduation ceremonies and my family joined the parade. We had two high school events and one doctoral exercise. I remembered a certain June in 1941 and the classmates who participated in the commencement program: the welcome by Lou Young, the Class Day address by Larry Thompson, the Class Poem by Thomson Littlefield, the address to the College by Charles McLane, the Sachem Oration by Frank Hall, and the address to the Old Pine by John Brister. More recent activities were noted, for example, in the 1996 time period.
Roy Rowan, a former senior for Time/LIFE was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. In a globe-hopping career Roy built an international reputation for penetrating journalism. Another '41 saluted in the 1996 Class Notes was busy with Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE).
Stu May and Audrey were scheduled for a Caribbean cruise but he had to get the approval of his hip doctor.
Jack Waring and his wife, Penny, from Advance, North Carolina, had exciting times when their ship in the Indian Ocean caught fire. They were awarded a replacement cruise only to have the ship strike a submerged object and sink.
