Our reunion committee is hard at work making plans for the weekend of June 19-21. Here are some highlights from the schedule so far: Friday, June 19, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., dinner, music and catch-up; Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. class officers election (a great chance for you to take over the class secretary spot I am vacating), afternoon outdoor gatherings and activities (such as lunch at the river, ropes course, hiking, canoeing), evening cocktails, dinner and dancing; Sunday, June 21, farewell breakfast.
I live somewhat off the beaten path—a 30-minute feny ride and another 20-minute drive from Seattle, so it's always a kick to have folks come through my neck of the woods. Bob Sproull and his wife, Staci, were out this way and we got to catch up over coffee. Bob looked just as young as he did back in school, which he attributes to his vegan diet and regular Pilates workouts. Here's Bob's news in his words: "I still haven't been able to figure out the whole Seattle coffee thing despite the fact my wife grew up in Seattle; I'm glad to be back residing near Boston where I can simply order a 'medium regular' at Dunkin Donuts and feel normal.
"I'm happy to have James Savarese back in Boston with his wife, Eileen, and 2-year- old daughter. They recently left Chicago and have taken up residence in Copley Square. Savy also looks good due to his fitness regime, but he is really falling behind me in the hair category. This summer I was fortunate to spend time with Mike Smith and family. Smitty was recently promoted to an executive level position within one year of joining Workscape Inc.
"My hobby is refereeing rugby matches. Dave McConnell and Janine Lambert and their kids came out to a game I refifed in Portland, Maine. We ventured back to their house and the McConnell kids were especially nice to my young son, who took a liking to their pet rats. Other than the rats, all is well in the Lambert/McConnell household.
"Rugby note: I was lucky enough to be selected along with two other U.S. refs to travel to Gloucester and Cheltenham, England, where they allowed me to practice my skills in the land where the sport of rugby was founded. This was a fantastic experience, especially since I had toured the same sites as a player for Dartmouth 20 years earlier.
"We also visited Larry and Nancy Socher in northern Virginia this September. Larry, a man of few words, now speaks even less due to the Blackberry he has surgically attached to his hand, and he's a 'texter' (I don't text). If I need information I call Nancy. Lany works for Accenture and his technological expertise is in high demand, so he is often traveling outside of the United States. The Sochers are looking forward to moving into their new house in Vienna, Virginia.
"The Sproulls anticipate spending our third Christmas Eve with Pat Walsh and his wife, 'I'm So' Sari, their kids and Pat's parents in North Andover, Massachusetts. (Pat, if you're reading this and we weren't at your house this year, you should be ashamed.) Sari is a native of Finland and she prepares a fantastic traditional feast consisting of several types of herring, caviar and glogg (if you haven't had glogg, stop by your local IKEA, it is worth the trip). Hope you have a happy and healthy 2009!"
