As soon as Josie Harper announced in January that she's retiring from her post as athletic director this June, speculation about her replacement filled the air. Dean of the College Tom Crady said he'll appoint an interim director "in a month or two" to serve for a year "while a new Dartmouth president gets settled in." Big Green watchers tossed out several internal candidates they think or hope might be considered for the interim job: executive associate athletic director for varsity sports Brian Austin, deputy director of athletics Bob Ceplikas '78 and football coach Buddy Teevens '79. Harper, athletic director since 2002 and the first female to hold such a title in the Ivy League, has spent 27 years at Dartmouth. "The time is right for someone else to come in and take a good look at things," the former lacrosse coach said in announcing her decision.
