The College and its alumni owe an expression of appreciation to retiring president Jim Wright for his years of leadership. Frank Weber writes of having attended a memorial service for Alan Epstein’s wife, Sally, who died in early March. Also received was a note from Al Colton’s daughter concerning the death of her mother, Liz, in San Francisco in January. Both were supporters of our class and were welcome additions to our meetings and reunions. Bob and Abbie Kirsch in February left on an eight-week cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Sydney, Australia. On board they met Pete Kelsey ’58, who chaired his class’ 50th reunion. Fran Pender sent us a summary of Mike Pender’s activities since graduating from Thayer in 1950. Included were working for Robert Moses on the states’ exhibits at the 1964-65 World’s Fair in New York City; serving in Hampstead, Long lsland, as commissioner of general services; assuming the same office for Nassau County; serving as an engineering consultant from Valley Stream; serving as president of the Long Island chapter of professional engineers and as president of the National Public Parks Association in 1984. He served as president of the Long Island Dartmouth Club before moving in 1986 to Sarasota, where he set up a branch of Boyle Engineering Association. They do not plan to attend our reunions since Mike is having trouble walking. The sympathy of the class is extended to the families of Sally Epstein and Liz Colton. Our sympathy goes also to the daughter of Herbert Wik, who died on December 27, 2008. Keep in touch.
