Perdido, a 15-foot-high sculpture by Clement Meadmore, landed on campus in January. Described by Hood Museum officials as “a large, complex, abstract composition made from Cor-Tenn steel,” the new addition was permanently installed on the north side of Wheelock Street, near Observatory Road. Hood director Michael Taylor says Perdido fits perfectly with the mission of bringing important works of public art to campus. “Not only does it play beautifully with the trees, it also complement the industrial patina of Dartmouth’s buildings,” he says. Jay R. Schochet ’52 and his wife, Suzette, donated the piece, which was created by Meadmore in 1978.
