Clubs & Groups

As always, Dartmouth clubs and groups have been holding interesting events for our alumni community! The Dartmouth Club of Southwestern New Hampshire held a fall gathering on November 16 at Dublin School. The event featured a performance by the Dartmouth Cords, an a cappella group of undergraduates. The evening consisted of a social hour, followed by a lasagna dinner and then the delightful and fun-filled performance by the Cords. In attendance were Rick MacMillan ’66 and Augusta Patrone; Peter Kingsley ’74 and Barbara; Brad Bates ’91 and Lisa; Mark and Kathy Gross ’85; Beth Healy, Tu’73, and Jack Calhoun; Win Raynor ’76 and Joan; Roger Hansen ’65; Rick Hartman ’54; Kimberly DeVore ’91 and Aaron; Todd Herrmann ’80; Dawn Pieper and Scott Fried, a ’28 parent; Art Simington ’64; Steve Larmon ’74; Janet Warren ’87 and Phil; Steve Ward ’64; and Richard Merrill ’73. Thanks to Brad Bates, headmaster of the school, for facilitating the arrangements.

Kim Buresh ’90 shared that the Dartmouth Club of Los Angeles (DCLA) held its annual holiday party atthe home ofAmy Iorio ’84, Ralph Barton ’85. and Trey Barton ’27. With more than 150 attendees from classes spanning 65 years, the party was a fun chance to meet, reconnect, and celebrate the holiday season. Lisa Liberati ’84 of Sweetzer Cellars graciously donated the wine and the club recognized local LA. leader Crystal Crawford ’87 as recipient of the 2024 Dartmouth Alumni Award. DCLA president Tiffany Dyson ’18 led the team of party planners—including Rachel Martin ’19, Marco Chu ’11, Laura Icken ’85, Fernando Menendez ’15, and Chad Hollis ’12—for an incredibly successful event.

John Bash ’67, president ofthe Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee, Florida, reports that on October 18,2024, John Rhyner ’82 spoke on “Converting an Iconic Building to Geothermal in a Concrete Jungle—St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City.” Rhyner also described Dartmouth’s recently launched major geo-exchange project. Another environmental engineer, Roberto Sanchez ’69, discussed his green (LEED) building projects in Latin America and Africa. On November 15 the club hosted Thomas Reed, whose latest novel, A Pocketful of Poseys, describes the tragicomic global adventures of the family of a fictitious Dartmouth professor. On December 20 Dartmouth government professor Russell Muirhead asked the club’s group of alumni and current students and their families, “Can We Make the Constitution Work?” Andrea Lowe ’77 and Martin Zimmerman ’67 contrasted the British system to the American one. The lecture provoked a stimulating discussion and reminded all how great Dartmouth professors are.

Thank you for all you do for Dartmouth alumni! Please send me updates about the great events that you and your club members have organized. Happy 2025!
