Rev. J. E. Abbott, D.D., passed a portion of the summer as guest of Dr. W. E. Browning in Uruguay, South America.
A pamphlet on farm land taxation has recently appeared, bearing the name of Prof. Richard T. Ely, University of Wisconsin. Professor Ely makes startling statements founded on government reports as to the extent to which taxes absorb the cash rental income of farm lands, amounting, as in the case of West Chester Co., Pa., to 66%. He discusses the unwisdom of taxing growing timber and land containing oil, coal, and other minerals, and suggests methods of taxation economically sound.
Edward P. Sanborn recently appeared as attorney in a case before the United States Supreme Court.
