OUTING CLUB GETS USE OF NEW CABIN
May 1925

The Dartmouth Outing Club has acquired, the use of a cabin located in the Franconia Notch region through the generosity of Mr. K. P. Abbott, former proprietor of the Profile House which was recently destroyed by fire.

The Abbott cabin was lent to the Outing Club for its indefinite use, provided that the Club installs its standard cabin cabin, formerly the home of the chief engineer of the Profile heating plant, is situated across the brook from the site of the heating plant and facing Cannon Mountain. The cabin itself is a small frame building 12 feet by 20 feet, with a shingled roof and clapboard sides. A small porch faces in the direction of the Old Man of the Mountains, although the profile itself can not be seen from this point.

The acquisition of this cabin completes the last link of the chain of cabins which the Outing Club maintains. Heretofore the long walk between the Agassiz Basin cabin, the nearest, on the south, and Skyline, the northernmost of the chain, has made the ascent of the Franconia Range impracticable because of the lack of a good base. The Abbott cabin lies within half a mile of the Eagle Cliff trail up Mt. Lafayette. Folding bunks, similar to the ones used in the Holt's Ledge cabin, will be installed immediately. The cabin will be open for use later in the spring.
