From the boulevards of Paris and canals of Venice, summer camps in the mountains and resorts by the sea, and from a thousand summer jobs 2200 boys flocked to Hanover for the opening of College at the close of September. To some Hanover was strange and new, but to most it was home once more.

With the construction of the new library, Dick Hall's House and the Davis Field House well under way, college challenged the undergraduate body to a year of progressive and vital growth. One deep regret, however, clouded the first days of the new year. President Hopkins was unable to lead the convocation exercises in Webster Hall and deliver his usual address to the student body.
