the oldest surviving member of the class, is achieving national fame through Associated Press despatches which describe his infliction of bread and water jail sentences on violators of the liquor law, and his experiment of a like diet for himself, to determine whether such a diet is harmful and cruel.

Another of the older members of the class, A. E. Cudworth of South Londonderry, Vt., is plainly not on the retired list, for he has just been nominated for the state senate, the nomination being equivalent to an election. He was one of the "big three" in the last lower house of the state legislature, and has served several terms in each house.
