Gifts and Bequests
Gifts and bequests received by the College during the academic year 1929-30 amounted to approximately a million and a half, according to a summary prepared by the bursar. The largest single sum received was that on the account of the gift of George F. Baker for the endowment of the Baker Library, amounting to $868,822. The sum received from the McNutt Bequest also accounted for a substantial part of the total, amounting to $111,990. The Alumni Fund total of $121,130.69 also a large item.
Gifts to establish memorial funds to aid needy students at Dick's House amounted to $31,000. The Adoniram Judson Hopkins Fund of $5,000 was established by Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Hall in honor of the father of President Hopkins. The Lucia Cotton Kimball Hall Fund, the Charles Prentiss Hall Fund, the Caroline Merrill Drew Fund, and the Irving Webster Drew Fund, of $5,000 each, were established in honor of the grandparents of Dick Hall, for whom Dick's House was named. The Rolla W. Bartlett Fund of $5,000 was established by Rolla W. Bartlett '94 and his wife, Mary Moulton Bartlett "in sincere admiration for those skilled doctors and faithful nurses who make a hospital experience a satisfactory one and a convalescence a pleasant memory." It is dedicated "to those who serve in Dick's House." The Friends of Dick's House Fund is a general fund established by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richardson Lane in which other benefactors interested in Dick's House are invited to participate.
The gift of J. E. Johnson '66 for the Ledyard Canoe Club is one recently transferred, having previously been held by another trustee.
