SOPHOMORES COME THROUGH
November 1934 C. E. Widmayer '30

The work of the sophomores on the team has been one of the bright aspects of the three early games. Carl Ray at center has been a stand-out in the line. Harry Ellinger has worked him into fighting trim at around 200 pounds, instead of the 220 which he was carrying around at the start of the season. A dependable passer, hard charger, and deadly tackier in backing up the line, he should come in rather handy this fall. John Handrahan, at the No. 3 or fullback position, has been consistently good in smashing the line and fulfilling the duties of safety man. He receives punts fearlessly and is one of the most accurate tacklers on the team. Gordon Bennett and Don Otis, the sophomore tackles, have stood up well on offense and defense; and the competence of Conti has been related at some length already. Ability on this year's team seems to be evenly spread out, and it has become increasingly difficult to think of its eleven men other than as a unit.

The Norwich, Vermont and Maine games have served to set the stage for some real gridiron drama, and though the local audience continues to be somewhat bewildered, it knows that it will be given a good show.
