School teachers of West Swanzey, Swanzey Center, East Swanzey, Swanzey Factory, and Westport, N. H., Superintendent of Schools Wesley H. Douglas of the Swanzey district, State Commissioner of Education James N. Pringle, friends and neighbors, joined in a dinner party at Swanzey, January 28, 1935, to honor Dr. A. W. Hopkins ("Hoppy" to us), who has been a member of the board of education for twenty-five years. Hoppy was the recipient of an appropriate gift, and his services to education suitably reviewed by the guest speaker. C. O. Miller Co., Stamford, Conn., the business formerly owned by our C. 0., sold its entire stock of merchandise on February 20, 1935, in the process of liquidating a long established enterprise.
Jim Richardson is chairman of the finance committee of Hanover, N. H. Jim and his associates prepare the budget and try to keep the local tax rate within the bound of reason.
The Secretary journeyed to Plymouth, N. H., March 14, to see Ernest Silver's State Normal School in action, and enjoyed a pleasant evening of reminiscence with Ernest, Guy Speare, and George G. Clark. Ernest has established at the State Normal School a circulating library for rural schools to which are sent deposits of selected books for pupil readers. The service is in great demand.
Leon E. Woodman, of the Missouri University School of Mines had a paper in the December, 1934, issue of the AmericanPhysics Teacher and read a paper at the November, 1934, meeting of the Missouri Academy of Science.
Frank M. Surrey has sold his farm in Georgia and has moved back to New York, where he is preparing for a summer trip to Scandinavia.
