The class will be grieved to learn of the death of "Windy" Winship, whose obituary appears in this number of the MAGAZINE. Flowers were sent to his services in the name of the class, and the Secretary has received a letter of sincere thanks to the class from Windy's brother and sister.
Joe Chase's son, Chester Everett Chase, is a sophomore at Davidson College. Joe regrets he will not be able to attend the reunion in June.
Charlie Crane is writing a book on Vermont to appear next year from the press of a New York publisher. Charlie's son, Charles Crane Jr., will be graduated in June from Swarthmore College.
A most successful 1906 dinner was held at the Dartmouth Club of New York on Jan. 20, with the following present: Ned and Nell Bullard, T. Brown, Thurlow Gordon, Brack Hazen, Ransom Morse, Fat Pratt, Ned Redman, and Lonnie Russ. Fat writes me: "We are out to win the Class ofj 879 Cup again, for attendance at the Dartmouth dinner to be held in New York Feb.27. We hope Nat Leverone will be present."
Dave Main writes: "We have twelve fineboys going on from Denver to Dartmouthnext fall. All have excellent scholastic records both in the local high schools and theEastern preparatory schools, and they arethe best bunch that we have ever sent onto Hanover. One of the boys, SeymourWheelock, is a direct descendant ofEleazar, and besides being an honor student, is captain of the East High footballteam, and he should be no handicap to theCollege on account thereof." Is there anywhere a better worker for Dartmouth than our Dave?
Norm Bankart had a busy football season last fall, serving as linesman in the Harvard-Army, Princeton-Harvard, Penn-Cornell, and several other games.
Mike O'Brien's children are all progressing finely. Smith is a law student in Boston University, Fredric a law student in Harvard Law School, and Helen Marie a senior at Abbott Academy, expecting to enter Smith College next fall.
Bert Rainie's son Donald is captain of the Concord High School basketball team and plans to enter Dartmouth next autumn; his brother Robert will follow a year later.
Eph Smith has just closed a successful term as Illustrious Potentate of Mount Sinai Temple No. 3, A, A. O. N. M. S.
Thrasher Gray, Tubby's son, is a freshman at Lehigh.
Clyde Souter's oldest daughter, Edna, was recently graduated from the training school of Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, N. J., as valedictorian of her class, indicating, writes Clyde, "a considerable improvement in the breed." Clyde, by the way, has two more children whose births have never been reported in the class news: Clyde Douglas 11, born April 19, 1931, and Eve-Lyn Sanduska, born May 25, *9351 both were born at Reno, Nev., where Souter is a successful lawyer.
