Even though you will be reading this in February, I am ending 1972 with thanks to many of you who have taken the time and trouble to send in cards, letters, clippings, etc. so that I have been able to pass quite a bit of news to the Class. I still have many cards from the address book mailing as well as other notes so if I haven't mentioned something you sent in, be patient and I'll get to it. I will also add that I can always use more and current items.

A glance at the Alumni Club columns in the Alumni Magazine shows that '36 is active in many places. Al Momenee has been elected president of the Detroit club. Al is a widower with a daughter Claudette who is a junior at Eastern Michigan U. He still lives in Harper Woods, Mich., and works for Chrysler in Dearborn. The Phoenix, Ariz., club has at least three from our class, DuneNewell, Bob Lewis, and Jim Pearson. I reported on Dune recently and all I know about Bob is that he moved from New Hampshire to Phoenix a few years ago. Jim lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., and lists himself as self-employed but doesn't say at what. He has a son and three daughters as well as four grandchildren. In June of '72 he married Myra Ann Buchanan, Wellesley '40. The Pearsons hosted the Phoenix Club's annual Christmas party for students, alumni, and high school prospects.

A recent mailing from the Kiplinger (Washington) Editors, those producers of weekly letters and other useful material on what's going on in government, etc; contained a picture of BillYelverton, a senior editor for Kiplinger who apparently "runs the weekly staff operations, puts together the material going into each letter, and prepares it for final editing." Bill's picture indicates little change from his picture in our 25th Reunion book except whiter hair. Our latest information was that Bill's three sons had three children but that was several years ago so Bill probably has more grandchildren by now.

Sumner "Sub" Harris and his wife Marion live in Lexington, Mass., and Sub is an account executive for E. F. Hutton & Co. in Salem, Mass. They have a place at Buston's Island off South Freeport, Me., where they visit frequently in the summer. Dr. Harry and Nathalie Lowd live in Pemaquid Beach, Me., and are in the process of building a small new house for "future partial or total retirement." The Lowds have three sons: Harry 3rd '66, a hospital administrator in Pennsylvania; Robert '68, in the submarine service; and Harvey, a salesman. So far they have no grandchildren.

Bill Spring has retired after 36 years with the Travelers Insurance Co. and he and Marie have moved to a farm in Collinsville, Conn. He's now busy rebuilding a farmhouse on Swimming Pool Road. His daughter Marty is married to the head of the Philosophy Department at Ohio State University. Son Steve is a classical guitarist. Bill's principal hobby is amateur radio.

Hesty Hirst has been promoted to senior vice president, corporate affairs, and secretary of the Allendale Mutual Insurance Co. Providence, R. 1., a member of the Factory Mutual System. Hesty has been in the insurance field since leaving Dartmouth and at one time had an antique fire engine in good working order. Daughter Ann is married and living in North Dakota. Edgar '65 lives in Virginia and George graduated from the University of Rhode Island last year.

A return postcard plus assorted attached notes brings news of Bob and Weecie Morris of Pasadena, Calif. Bob says he is self-employed as a "pettifogger" and to avoid any libel suits I'll not translate but leave it to each of you to look up. Son Mike, is football coach for Santa Monica High School, David is awaiting bar exam results and job hunting, while Will is a high school senior in Pasadena and a three handicap golfer. The rest of the family consists of Mike's wife April and children, Jeffery and Jennifer, and David's wife Trina.

A Christmas letter from Don and Lucia Ballantyne brings us up to date on their family. Don took early retirement from the Brooklyn Union Gas Co. last March and after a two week ski vacation in Vermont and New Hampshire plus catching up on home projects, got tired of retirement and joined the mortgage department of the Ridgewood Savings Bank. He is enjoying the shorter commute, more flexible hours, and lesser work pressure. They have joined John and JaneBouker as owners of property at the College-sponsored Eastman community between Hanover and Sunapee. (There may be other classmates with property there but I don't have any other names.) Son Duncan and his wife Carol are involved in social service work near Boston. Dune is Director of Vocational Rehabilitation for the Danvers Institution. Daughter Nancy works in Geneva, Switzerland for the UN. Don and Lucia joined her in September for a trip through Italy, France, and Switzerland.
