Our pre-Harvard luncheon held at the Algonquin Club in Boston on Friday October 27, was a most interesting affair. Only four classmates were present, Arthur Chapin,Randall Cooke, Walter Powers, and your Secretary. However we had the pleasure of having the following men with us, Matt Bullock '04, Roger Brown '05 George Grebenstein '07, Harold Niles '07, and Bill Smart '07.

We also enjoyed the company of Kenneth Tatro a close friend of Randall Cooke. Since he was a banker, he was most helpful in straightening out the financial settlement of the lunch. Mat Bullock told us some most interesting football stories and as usual our president regaled us with his jokes.

Walter Dakin writes that he is in good health but in November he has to have cataracts removed from both eyes. Says his memory is not too good but he can still read and write. His one worry is about Genevieve. Since she broke her hip two years ago, she has been bedridden and is under the care of a nurse 24 hours a day.

Their son, Philip, '30, owns and manages a restaurant in Forio d'Ischia, on the Bay of Naples. Their daughter, Marion, has two girls and two boys and she practices medicine in Los Angeles. For the first time in three years all of the Dakins will be together for the holidays.

Frances Chidley has just sent me a copy of the book "Before Many Witnesses" written by Ruth Harrington Boylston on the life of Howard James Chidley. It is a fascinating story about his career. I hope all the class will read it.

Winifred Glaze writes that Ralph keeps well and active and has more pep and ambition than most people his age. Every day after his five-mile run and six hours' work in the garden he enjoys a good dinner and spends the evening telling stories about his Dartmouth and some of the pranks that he had "quite a lot" to do with. At one end of the porch they have a flight cage with 35 parakeets and two beautiful white doves. Ralph enjoys lying on the couch watching the antics of the birds.

Winifred's health is not too good so it is necessary for her to go to the clinic twice a week. However as chaplain of the Rebekahs she manages to keep active. Their son and daughter live in Cambria so they have a happy and enjoyable life.

Was sorry not to see any classmate at the Harvard game. It sure was a thriller. I did see Jim Scribner who was there with his mother.

Start now to save your money for the Bicentennial.

Nathaniel Leverone '06 and wife Martha journeyed east for the Harvard game (lastyear's was the first he had missed in 65 years) and to Hanover for a first look at hisrecently hung portrait in Dean Karl Hill's office at Tuck School.
