Following spring vacation the Intramural Department promptly swung into action with three strikes on it, as our schedule was 18 games behind. We also started two new sports for dormitories—swimming and ping-pong. As usual the interfraternity yacht racing tournament sailed under way on Lake Mascoma; the fraternities are now sailing the semi-finals. On April 24 Pi Lambda Phi and Sigma Phi Epsilon opened the hardball schedule. At this writing, May 16, the fraternity play-offs are just beginning. The battle seems to be between last year's winners, Chi Phi, and Phi Gamma Delta. The Chi Phis still have the use of probably the best hurler in the league, Ray Berquist '3B, who is a secondyear Tuck man.
April 27th saw the dormitory Softball league off with a bang. At this time the semi-finals have been completed and tomorrow will see College Hall battling the boys from Middle Fayerweather for the dormitory championship.
Again this year we are running the Twilight League, which is composed of various campus organizations such as the Dartmouth News Board, DCAC Managers, Jacko, and the Intramural Department; Ten organizations are entered, and under the supervision of Bob Veres, boxing coach, and the Intramural Department are struggling for the Extra-Activities Cup.
With Wet Down only a week away, there is much speculation as to the winner of the Fraternity Championship Cup, awarded to the fraternity getting the most points over a period of a year, and also as to the winner of the dormitory plaque, awarded for the greatest number of points among the dormitories. On April 27 the Department announced the standing of fraternities and dormitories up to that date and including every sport but those now being run off. Delta Kappa Epsilon jumped ten places to lead the fraternities and College Hall still maintained its lead among the dormitories. However, Phi Delta Theta, Delta Tau Delta, and Alpha Delta Phi are right on the Dekes' heels. And in the dormitories, Hitchcock, Upper Topliff, and South Mass are running neck and neck with College Hall.
