Our wandering boy, Haywood, has been spending some time at Halekulani, Honolulu, Hawaii. He ran across Harrie Muchmore just after his return by plane from Midway Island—1300 miles—where a base is established for part of the tremendous job he is doing for the government. This is one of the really big engineering jobs now in operation—more about it later. Hayward carried too much equipment all the way to Hawaii. It seems the top of his bathing suit was useless baggage. They are not worn there, only reason given, the water is too warm, 74 degrees. Hayward observes a great scarcity of Dartmouth menperhaps his location—on the beach at Waikiki—is the reason.

Our February blizzard gave Bill Slay ton a problem as Superintendent of Waltham School, two days were lost and Bill's remedy to use two Saturdays was not cheerfully received by high school pupils led by the president of the senior class. Bill's alternative is two more days at the end of school year. Sounds like forced feeding to me.

Attorney Kenneth H. Hemenway of Northampton, Mass., son of Ralph Hemenway, onetime member of our class, and partner of Calvin Coolidge, is interested in the candidacy of Thomas Dewey for president.

This paragraph from the letter of a friend brings brief news from Bill Saben. "Last October I made a business trip to Arizona and was being shown the properties of the Phelps Dodge Corporation at Jerome and Clarkdale by the manager of these properties. During the conversation I told him that one of the mountains in the distance looked a little more like our eastern mountains than is usual in Arizona. He asked me what eastern mountains I was familiar with and when I told him the White Mountains he asked what place I went to. I told him it was a small place which he presumably had never heard of called Waterville. He said, Oh, that's Dave Austin's place, isn't it? He was Mr. W. M. Saben who, I believe, was a classmate of yours at Dartmouth, and he wished to be remembered to you."

I wish Bill had taken more penmanship courses. Many of us would enjoy first-hand news from him.
