Katie and I again made a sad trip. A few short weeks ago it was to attend services for Dot Amon. This time it was to Taunton, Mass., for Ginny Collis who died of cancer in much the same way. Since Monk is Charley's lawyer the two girls had known each other well and talked about their mutual problem before matters reached the crucial points. We so well recall her friendly cute little self with her look-alike sister hostessing the outing on their boat for a number of us classmates bringing aboard roast beef sandwiches and other goodies for the crowd. She said the chicken was Charley's cooking department, his specialty. It was a memorable day. The Class extends deepest sympathy to Charley.
A letter from Col. Bill Bell bringing us up to date. After retiring from the Army in 1966 and a three-month trip around the world he went to work for Credit Management Association of Greater Washington, D.C., as director of collections. In July 1967 he was appointed executive vice president. Besides making collections this outfit sends out credit reports on many commercial firms in the country to their 300 member firms covering all lines of businesses, banks, S & L's, and insurance companys. This all got to be too much rat race so Bill retired from everything permanently in 1973. He is now chairman of his church's Meals on Wheels program along with other forms of voluntary social participation. Says the latch string is always out for anyone passing through at 404 Crownview Drive, Alexandria, Va.
Pat Doherty forwarded the news to the College that Russ Bishop had died and the obituary, as written by the magazine folks, appeared in last month's issue. Russ reported in our 25th year book he had then been a widower for 15 years and he never remarried. Russ also served for a time on our class executive committee, was always a lover of the College and contributed generously to the fund. He will be missed.
Briggs Austin is retiring from Eastman Kodak this month after 35 years service. During the earlier times he and Alice were transferred all around the country and fell in love with the West. They are leaving Rochester, N.Y., moving to Missoula, Montana, 4741 Sundown Road 59801. They bought 30 acres of land with a pleasant house thereon just outside of the town. Missoula is close to the Idaho border and about 100 miles northwest of Butte, for any class travelers with C ration cards.
Hanover tells us Pat and George Roewer are now at Tiffany Gardens West, Apt. 312, 1600 North Ocean Boulevard, Polmpano Beach, Fla. 33062. They told us last fall at a football game they planned to be at Del Ray Beach thus we wonder if this may be a permanent six-months address, the other time in Syracuse.
Al Mclntyre checks in sending along the latest clipping and picture of Chick Koop's follow-up on the Siamese twins operation which received world-wide attention. All OK with Al but he says he could use more business. (Me too!Ed.)
Dorothy Hall, Bob's wife, sent us a note of thanks to the Class for our memorial book program gift in his name.
Well, it's April. That means the Robins have returned from the south and dropped one off, name of Frank, who you will be hearing from over the next three months if not one of his fledgling agents. We have no thoughts of forecasting here but with the country's economy all mixed up and private schools feeling the pinch all the more it seems we are going to have to look at our giving program pretty carefully to sustain the goal set for this year in comparison with the excellent return our class made last year. And the sooner you get it in the easier it will be for all the countless agents to get off your backs!
