PRESIDENT HOPKINS' VISIT here in February brought a record turnout of 115 alumni and guests at the University Club for the 45th annual banquet of the Dartmouth Club of Detroit. This was the enthusiastic response to his first trip here since 1935.

Among the guests were fathers of undergraduates, principals of high schools and preparatory schools, prospective students and their fathers. President Jim Bear '19 guided the meeting. Some of the alumni from out of town were President Joe Brewer '20 of Olivet College; Dr. James Brotherhood '04 and Chuck Burwell '27 from Grand Rapids; and Pat Doherty '37 with the crew he rounded up from Flint, Leroy Ball '22, Dr. Otis Jackson '24, Hugh Rafferty '35, Vern Moore '36, and Rus Bishop '37. Barrett Lyons '25 and Joe Shenstone '38 came in from Ann Arbor.

Ford Whelden '25 made the 13th annual presentation of the Dartmouth College Cup to Cooley High School, which for the third time had the highest combined rating in scholarship and standing in the city football league. Each high school winning the cup is given a replica of the larger trophy as their permanent possession.

The election of officers before the dinner produced the following results: Bud Hulett '35, President; Dave Williams '35, Vice President; Dick Brown '29, Secretary-Treasurer; Chuck Delbridge '36, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. Jim Bear '19, Johnny Manser '26 and Dave Campbell '36 were elected to the Executive Committee. Bud Hulett has announced his plans and policies for 1940, which include considerable activity.

Any dinner held after the Hopkins affair would ordinarily be an anti-climax, but, when Dean Bill finished leading his discussion on problems of the faculty and curriculum at a meeting held early in March, everyone was glad to have heard him. The comments were in favor of having other instructive sessions later on.

Further plans for the Glee Club concert and dance in April have been announced, along with the fact that most of the available tickets have been sold. The party is to be held at the Detroit Boat Club, and, by the time this is published, it undoubtedly will have been a terrific success. This will be due to efforts of Art Lyman '27, chairman, who has the assistance of Bud Devlin '38, Dave Campbell '36 and Dave Williams '35.
