THE ANNUAL PICNIC of the Chicago Association was held on Thursday, August 27, at Louis Leverone's farm near Half Day, Illinois. The Chicago group, thanks to the generosity of Mr. LevSrone, has had its picnics and outings there for several years. Despite a shortage of transportation and general war conditions about 40 of us were able to get there which we considered an excellent turnout under the circumstances. Festivities started in the late afternoon, including swimming and, of course, an elaborate exhibition of plain and fancy baseball. Food, as usual, was very popular and "rumor hath it" that beer consumption "hit a new high." An unimpeachable source advised us that this was entirely due to extremely hot weather. The curtain came down about 9 o'clock after the usual huge bonfire and some very fine choral work by everybody.
The annual luncheon for incoming Freshmen, and their fathers, took place in a private dining room at Mandel Brothers Department Store on Tuesday, September 1. We of the Chicago Association enjoyed meeting these young men and their fathers very much, indeed, and hope that they had an equally good time. Although the speaker whom we had expected was unable to be present, we were indeed fortunate to have some first class "pinch hitting" on the part of Bill Embree '21, and Bill Abbott '27. In the absence of President Ken Thomas '21 because of illness, Worthy Walters '26, our Vice President, did a grand job of conducting the meeting. We are pleased to report that President Thomas has now recovered from his illness and is back in circulation.
