April 1942 JOHN S. MONAGAN

News must seep through slowly to 2015 Foster Ave., Brooklyn, because Joe Searing writes to your Secretary in a letter dated March 1, 1942 to congratulate him on being nominated for Congress. You may recall that the New Yorh Times of January 21st carried the story of our gallant defeat.

As a matter of fact, it is unfair to Joe to introduce his letter in this fashion because its real purpose was to announce the birth of Carolyn Ruth Searing on September 17, 1941.

Joe adds: "Ed Hutchings acquired a charming wife last Spring and together they have a corner on picture magazines. Ed works for Look and Liz for Life Add to Paul Burtis data: He and Judy have a handsome son born last July Tell the boys when in N. Y. to shop at Mc- Creery's because I'm credit manager."

Os Skinner has forwarded to us a clipping from the Herald Tribune of January 20 which pictures a Red Cross first aid demonstration on the steps of the New York Sub-Treasury. The willing subject for the experiment—adjusting a leg splintwas R. A. Rocker.

Howie Porter sends word that he is leaving New MilfQrd on the first of April. He has accepted a job as Assistant Treasurer of the Andover Savings Bank in Andover, Mass. He says: "Saw Ed Patch in Stoneham, Mass. the other day. He has a wife and daughter and a dog named "Condremul." Whit Kimball is in the Navy—on a mine layer, I believe. He went in through the Reserves.

The Dartmouth News Service has sent us three clippings about the wedding of Ed Knapp and Margaret Lum of Wallingford. The ceremony took place in New Haven at St. Thomas' Church on Jan. 24th. The former Miss Lum graduated from Wheaton and Katherine Gibbs of Boston. Mr. Knapp is connected with the Aetna Insurance Co. in Hartford. The couple are at home at 5 River Road, Wethersfield.

We also have several clippings concerning the marriage of Jim Woods and Jane Sexton in Winchester on January 17th. They add only two things to the information we have already given you—(1) the matron of honor wore a gown of flame silk jersey and chiffon and carried a cascade of acacia and beige cymbidium orchids and wore flame colored feathers in her hair; (2) Mr. Frank A. Hardy was an usher.

From R. Jackson, Esq.: "1933's worst correspondent has been moved into action at last. The reason: the birth on Washington's birthday of a daughter, Deborah, at the Peck Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn. Both mother and daughter are fine.

"Concerning Dartmouth news I have little to report. As a member of New York's Dartmouth Lawyers, I attended the recent dinner at the N.Y.A.C. and renewed acquaintance with some of '33. Jack Masten,Al Beekman and Al Swan were on deck looking very prosperous as were Harry Osborne and John (Sam) Black. Sam, who is a neighbor of mine in Brooklyn Heights, and one of the Heights' leading citizens is the father of a baby who is already big enough to hold down a guard position on the College team. ("Bet It's A Boy."—Ed.)

"The irrepressible Dosch, the workingman's friend, was also on hand, giving out with the latest dope on the nation's war effort. In short, the evening was well spent, particularly so by reason of an address by President Hopkins who gave us the most genuinely fighting speech I've yet heard. It's refreshing to hear someone talk who is damned mad about the world situation and who is not afraid to show it.

"In Washington about three weeks ago, I ran into Jean Meek who instructed me how to get in touch with John. He, unfortu- nately, was up to his ears in work when I called, so I had to postpone seeing him. I did call on Bob Kay and did have lunch with him at the Federal Trade Commission Lunch Room."
