More letters than usual came in this past month, and on top of it Scotty sent in a group of letters collected over the last year containing much new information, some old and used news but all interesting and welcome. Scott is a It. in the Maintenance Battalion of the 10th Armored Divi- sion and has just been transferred from Ft. Benning to Ft. Knox, Ky., for a ten weeks course in light tank maintenance and writes: "I see Ted Gates (It. in the 300 th Infantry Regiment stationed here at Ft. Benning) quite often—married and busily happy. Page Smith (Lt.) says he expects to leave the Academic Section of the Infantry School and be assigned to a combat unit. Bud Schlivek is still down here at Benning with a Signal Corps photographic outfit. Chet Garrison is with the Parachute Training School down here."
Ensign Tom George writes that—"l'm stationed down here in Norfolk, Va. doing Photographic Interpretation work for the Amphibious Force—a unique Army-Navy outfit." Tom states that a recent letter from Tom Braden finds him recuperating from a leg injury in England, received in training—also, that Dick Krolik is attached as Communications Officer to an Aircraft Group in the South Pacific and writing letters while listening to Jack Benny deep in the jungles of New Guinea.
The 13th and last mission o£ the Flying Fortress piloted by Ist Lt. Ray Dau was not altogether tragic, since its bombs found their marks in Lae harbor and several Jap Zeros were felled before Ray was forced to skillfully crash the bomber into a mountain side. Ray was sent to Australia to recuperate, but is now again back in New Guinea for another crack at the Japs. Jack Hannestad and wife are living in Springfield, Pa., and writes that Jack O'Brien is with the Navy in Brazil.
Elmer Browne now in the Pacific as Supply Officer has recently been promoted to It., senior grade. He writes that "Phil Dostal and Steve Graden are holding down desks jobs under the complex Halsey organization in this area. Saw Al Eiseman a couple of weeks ago who is now on a new "tin can!" Brownie and Joyce Thompson, of New Haven, announced their engagement last October. Steve Jewett left Harvard Law School to enlist in Dec., 1941, and is now in the South Pacific as a fighter pilot. Capt. John Peacock is with a commando unit of the Marine Corps, somewhere in the jungles of the Pacific. Ensign Chet Brett is plying the waters of the Pacific on convoy duty. 2nd Lt. Herbert Condit and wife are at the Oliver General Hospital, Augusta, Ga., where Herb is stationed after completing his O.C.S. at Carlisle Barracks, Pa."
Promotions: Bill Hayes is now a It., senior grade, in the Naval Air Corps. Gordon K. Wentworth has been given his silver bars as has Beezie Smallwood, who is in the Army Air Corps. Jack Faunce was one of the top 20 at Prairie State Naval Training Station and last month was commissioned an ensign—is now stationed at Miami, Fla. for more training. Jim Thomas has recently been promoted to It., senior grade, and is a Naval Aircraft inspector at the Chrysler Motor Corp. in Detroit. Duke Lyon has just been made a captain.
WEDDINGS AND SUCH: Miss Ruth Eleanor Gordon, of Bradford Junior College and Verona, N. J., and Capt. William Watson USMCR were married March 6th in Montclair, N. J. Miss Elizabeth Hillman Hollister and "Boo" Hayden announced their engagement last March. Miss Hollister graduated from Mount Holyoke College, and Boo is now a It. in the USNR. Miss Jeanne Carolyn Hall and ist Lt. Norb Hamilton announced their engagement also last March.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester R. Berry announced the arrival of Linda Jean Berry, born Feb. 12th. Miss Janet Lydia Ingerson of Lebanon, N. H., and Lt. (jg) Lewis Chipman were married April 4th with several Dartmouth '40's doing the guiding. Bob Williams was best man with Lew and Dodie Lambert and Bud Czerny in on the doings. Miss Jean Andrews, of London, England, and Ensign Thomas George were married on March 20th. Mrs. George has been in this country for three years but has returned home for a short visit. Miss Martha Elizabeth Chipman announced her engagement to Albert Feeley this past April. Al is working for the Sun Oil Company. Also, Miss Elizabeth Ann McKinley and Cecil Moore announced their engagement during April. Miss McKinley is with the 319 th Army Air Forces flying training detachment at Houston, Texas, and "Cec" is associated with Pan-American Airways and has just recently returned to the U. S.
The Alumni Fund is surging ahead strongly, but we still haven't heard from many of you, so send your money in to the College or to Jack Rourke and the news and photos in to me.
